Netizens slam woman filmed abandoning elderly dog at vet in Tsuen Wan

A video of a woman abandoning an elderly dog at a vet clinic in Tsuen Wan went viral on Hong Kong social media yesterday, garnering widespread criticism from netizens.

The incident took place at 11:43am yesterday at Medpromise Veterinary Clinic on Ho Pui Street. CCTV footage showed a woman in a grey coat pulling the little dog into the clinic’s empty reception, looking around, and nonchalantly dropping its leash before walking out.

The clinic uploaded the surveillance clip to their Facebook page yesterday evening. In the caption, they explained what had happened, and added that they had tried to locate the dog’s owner using its microchip, but the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said the registered phone number had already been deactivated.

The microchip information indicates that the dog is a 14-year-old chihuahua, but no other information was available. Based on her Winnie the Pooh leash, the vet clinic’s staff have nicknamed the pup “Win Win”.

“We don’t want her to be reunited with such a heartless owner, but we just want everyone to spread the word that you shouldn’t abandon your animals without a second’s thought. You have to respect these little creatures’ lives!” the caption said.

The post soon went viral, with netizens slamming the woman for her cold-heartedness.

“How could a person be so heartless and abandon an elderly dog like that? You’d think they’d have spent many years together at this point,” one person wrote.

Another commenter said, “When [the woman’s] 70 years old, let’s see if someone treats her like that!”

Earlier today, a man surnamed Wong contacted Apple Daily to say that he was the rightful owner of the dog (called Bobo), and had asked a young boy who knew Bobo’s previous owner to dog-sit for him while he was away on a business trip.

“I intended to have the boy look after my dog for only a few days. I think there was a misunderstanding and he thought he was stuck with Bobo, which made his mother angry, as looking after the dog made him late for school.”

Well, without Bobo in his life, maybe that kid can now go to school and learn the definition of dog-sitting.

We’re still not totally sure who the woman in the clip is, but we’re glad to hear that she’s probably not a pet owner.

As Wong is reportedly Bobo’s third owner since she left her long term home at a hardware store, he says he doesn’t have anything other than family pictures and videos of the pup to prove his story.

“I’ve already spoken to the vet clinic and explained the situation, I just hope that they give her back to me,” he said.
