Police arrested a man in Tin Shui Wai yesterday on suspicion of inciting attacks on journalists during the Lunar New Year riot in Mong Kok.
TVB (as sourced by HKFP) reported that the 21-year-old was charged with accessing a computer with criminal or dishonest intent on Wednesday morning.
The man was suspected of uploading a post titled “Wreck the camera and attack if you see TVB” to a forum during the early hours of Feb. 9.
A Facebook page for political group ReStart-HK recently shared a post saying “Our fists will treat [journalists] like how your lenses treat us”, and cautioned followers about police officers masquerading as members of the media, as well as dismissing the majority of mainstream media as pro-government.
The post also encouraged protesters, when necessary, to reciprocate the same amount of force used by the authorities in order to protect themselves.
