One Nepalese worker was killed and another injured on Wednesday when they suffered electric shocks at a construction site in Wan Chai.
Lama Mingma Tshering was working 150 metres underground to replace a water pump for a drainage service project when he was suddenly rendered unconscious by an electric shock, Ming Pao reports.
A nearby worker reached out to try and help Lama but was also hit by the electric current on touching his body.
Coworkers quickly shut off the power supply and rushed both men to hospital.
Lama was pronounced dead at the hospital after efforts to resuscitate him failed, while his colleague arrived in a conscious state and remains in a stable condition.
A spokesperson for the Drainage Service Department offered his condolences to Lama’s family, while work on the site has been temporarily halted until safety can be ensured.
The spokesman added that the department will assist in any and all investigations.
