Hong Kong’s Immigration Department arrested four people on Wednesday in connection to a case of alleged bogus marriages and embezzlement at Ting Wai Monastery in Tai Po.

Chief nun Sik Chi-ding was carted off alongside another nun, a monk, and one of the women’s domestic helpers. Apparently nuns don’t do their own cleaning either.

Sik is accused of marrying two monks from mainland China to help them obtain residency in Hong Kong and transferring HKD5 million in donations to her own bank account, reports the SCMP.

Weirdly enough, there are no laws in Hong Kong against nuns and monks marrying.

Lawyer and director of the monastery, Mary Jean Reimer, first reported her suspicions to Hong Kong Financial Secretary John Tsang, whose office is investigating.

According to Apple Daily (as reported by HKFP), Reimer chose to contact the man with the spectacular ‘tache over the police, as senior officers are also involved in the scandal.

The thick plottens!

Sik and the monk were arrested for making false declarations in legal documents, while the other nun and her domestic helper were detained for aiding and abetting another to reach the conditions of their stay and overstaying a visa, respectively.

All have been released on bail.
