Residents in Hong Kong’s Tai Wai neighborhood got a bit of a shock (and an eyeful) yesterday when they saw a middle-aged woman running around the area completely naked.
News of the incident first appeared on a Facebook group called, helpfully enough, HK Incident, in which users post traffic updates, accidents on pedestrian crossings, and sometimes, well … things like this. A screengrab of CCTV footage from a local shop shows the naked woman running down the sidewalk at about 12:30pm.
One eyewitness, surnamed Lau, told Apple Daily that, a few minutes later, the mystery nudist was spotted running along Chik Tai Lane towards a high school called the G.C.C. & I.T.K.D. Lau Pak Lok Secondary School.
“At first she started yelling, I couldn’t really hear what she was saying, then she faced the school and continued yelling in the direction of the school,” he said.
Lau also sent the newspaper video of the moment police arrived at the scene and subdued the woman by holding her onto the ground.
As it was around 1pm by this point, Lau said a lot of students were on their lunch break and could see what was happening outside the school gates.
Police told the newspaper that they could not find any identifying documents on the woman — well, no — and, after carrying out a preliminary investigation, decided not to pursue a criminal investigation.
Officers classified the incident as a possible case of “handling a mentally disordered person.”
