Muay Thai instructor jailed in Hong Kong for giving female student a ‘love hug’

A male Muay Thai coach and personal trainer has been jailed in Hong Kong for giving a student what he described as a “love hug”.

Chan Hon-ming, 33, was sentenced at the Eastern Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to three weeks in jail after he hugged a female client from behind at Fight Factory Gym (formally Hayabusa) in Central in July, wrapping his arms around her breasts.

Chan said the “love hug” was meant to be encouraging, but the woman, who suffers from depression, complained to the police of sexual assault.

Ming Pao reports that Chan pleaded for leniency in sentencing, saying the conviction has seen him sacked by his employer and ruined his career in the fitness industry.

The judge decided to jail the 33-year-old anyway, saying his actions caused the victim psychological harm.
