MTR’s South Island Line to open by end of 2016, and take only 4 minutes from Admiralty to Ocean Park

Congratulations Southsiders, staycationers, and Ocean Park lovers: the MTR’s South Island (East) Line is due to open by the end of the year!

Following a few setbacks, MTR Corp. chairman Frederick Ma yesterday announced that the new line would be up and running before the new year. Since the trains run all night on Dec. 31 (yes, really!), that’s a whole world of NYE parties that’s become more accessible than ever.

And, in news that will no doubt be welcomed by the punctually challenged (guilty), it’ll apparently take a measly four minutes to ride the MTR from Admiralty to Ocean Park, compared to the 30+ minutes it takes from Admiralty on the 629 Citybus.

We don’t know about you, but the more time spent riding rollercoasters, the better.

The exact opening date of the South Island Line has yet to be confirmed, but until then, check out these photos of Admiralty Station’s cool, grey-and-white-toned extension:
