MTR’s South Island Line due to open on December 28!

Huzzah! After much ado, the last of Hong Kong’s 18 districts will finally be accessible by MTR later this month, just in time for New Year’s Eve (parties).

Earlier today, MTR Corp. announced that the long-awaited South Island (East) Line would commence service on Wednesday, Dec. 28:

The new stations are: Ocean Park, Wong Chuk Hang, Lei Tung, and South Horizons.

So that means, in a mere 13 days, Ocean Park (and all its wonders) will be only four minutes away from Admiralty by train. Oh mama.

It’s good actually, because now we have something to look forward to in that awkward gap between Christmas and New Year’s. Thanks MTR, for pre-empting our holiday slump.

In celebration, local four-star hotel Ovolo Southside is offering one night’s stay to the first 16 South Island Line riders at HKD28 — which, considering that their rooms fetch between HKD850 and HKD2,970 during the same period, sounds like a damn good deal to us.
