MTR announces likely delay of West Island line opening

MTR Corporation expresses yet another delay in its development projects – the West Island line opening may be delayed for about three months.

The original open date of year end this year may be pushed well into early 2015 instead.

MTR Corporation explains the delays are a result of ground conditions affecting the construction of an underground passenger exit at the Sai Ying Pun station and that, if trains don’t stop at the Sai Ying Pun station, the line can still open in time for October.

However, whether the line will still open with trains not stopping at Sai Ying Pun station will be decided by the government. Project manager, Mark Cruzner of the MTR Corporation told RTHK that decisions on the opening will be made in Oct. 2014.
