Mother killed by daughter’s husband with thinner

A woman attacked by her jobless 37-year-old son-in-law died yesterday at Princess Margaret Hospital after being unconscious for five days.

The incident happened on Friday at Mei Foo Sun Chuen when Wan Hoi-ming attempted to murder his mother-in-law, 67-year-old Tse Wai-lam, after she refused to lend him HK$1 million.

Wan got angry during the quarrel and soaked a towel with thinner then covered it over Tse’s mouth and nose. When Tse fell unconscious, Wan thought he had killed her, called the police and confessed.

Tse has been unconscious for the past five days but died yesterday at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

The police are now charging Wan with murder instead of attempted murder.
