Mother to appear in court today as police search for baby’s body in landfill

The mother, who concocted a cover up of her six-month old baby’s death last month, has been charged with preventing the lawful burial of a body. The 31-year-old will appear at the Kowloon City Magistracy on Wednesday.

Since the mother confessed she had placed the baby’s body in a violin case and into the rubbish bin on Nov. 17 police have organised a search at the Tseung Kwan O landfill for the body of the baby girl.

The police and Environmental Protection Department say they are able to locate the area of where the rubbish thrown that time is placed – however, locating the body within the rubbish is the challenge.

Experts say, most bodies at the landfills are hard to find and as it has been raining the past few days, it’s likely the body may have completely deteriorated. Experts however, say there is a glimmer of hope as the mother claims she put the body in a violin case and if bones can be found, DNA extraction is still possible.

If the body of Yue Hoi-ching is not found, investigators cannot carry out an autopsy to prove whether the baby really died naturally, as the mother claims, or other reasons.
