Although the Trade Descriptions Ordinance has been in effect for six months, which protects consumers by prohibiting false trade descriptions, the Democratic Party has found that it’s barely enforced.
Most advertisements of beauty products and services remain misleading. In fact, the Democratic Party found 27 problematic advertisements, such as not providing scientific proof of its claims, in just one random magazine. Take one advertisement for example, a medical spa services claimed that its “the only Hong Kong representative for the International Beauty Medical Association,” but found no such thing on the Internet.
Don’t rely on advertisements and labels, go on the internet and do your own research!
