More than a quarter of flight attendants sexually harassed

The Equal Opportunities Council conducted a survey among flight attendants and found that 1 in 4 of them were sexually harassed in the past year alone.

The results were alarming, with 27 percent reported to have been sexually harassed by passengers and customers. 17 percent of male respondents and 29 percent female respondents claims they were harassed. Only half of those harassed reported the incident. The majority of harassment was by passengers and customers.

A legal loophole in current Hong Kong Sex Discrimination Ordinance allows passengers to avoid prosecution, which may be the reason why many go unreported. The attendants think that nothing can be done. Also flight attendants work in congested places and are sometimes not sure if the harassment was intentional or not.
