More and more helpers are speaking up and reporting abuse by their employers, emboldened by the sympathy garnered by the Erwiana case, which made international headlines.
A 58-year-old housewife was arrested after a Bangladesh domestic helper claimed that she had been punched — including blows to her head — and that her employer had used a metal brush to scratch her hands, pulled her hair, and confined her in a storeroom. The employer’s home in the Mid-Levels was raided yesterday afternoon.
