Mong Kok street band discriminates deaf singers

The Mong Kok Pedestrian Zone is open to everyone, it’s free for public use, but a regular street band, 3L, decided to be a bully and though it was beneath them to perform on the same street as a group of deaf singers.

On Saturday, the Hong Kong Association of the Deaf set up shop on the Mong Kok pedestrian zone to perform for passersby. A group of deaf singers had learned and practiced hard to beat box but before they even started the band 3L called them a joke.

Throughout the deaf group’s performances 3L’s members would call out and say harsh and cruel things like “what a nuisance”, “disturbing us from making money”, and “being deaf doesn’t give you the authority to do whatever you please”. 3L continued to scold and curse the deaf singers until the organiser came out to say something about the situation, causing one of the volunteers to break into tears.

Netizens were quick to call out the band for their “selfish” and “shameless” behaviour. Although the band apologised after getting a lot of bad PR for what they did, there’s nothing that can be said to justify their actions.
