A six-year-old girl was missing for 22 hours before the police found her this afternoon at her friend’s flat, in the same estate in which she lives.
The little girl was reported missing yesterday afternoon after she didn’t return to her home in Kai Ching Estate, Kowloon Bay, launching a search that was widely reported by local media.
It is believed that the little girl was playing at a local park when she went back to her eight-year-old female friend’s home, where they continued to play, reports Apple Daily.
At the time, only her friend’s elderly father, aged 75, and domestic helper were at home.
She subsequently had dinner at her friend’s home and stayed the night.
Her friend’s father did not realise anything was amiss until he turned on the news and saw the TV report about the missing little girl.
He immediately called the police to inform them about the girl’s whereabouts.
He says that they had only prepared dinner for his daughter, but because her friend said she was hungry, he made food for her as well. When he told her to go home, she apparently told him that her father didn’t leave her a key and she didn’t know where her mother was, so he arranged for her to sleep in his daughter’s room.
The girl is unharmed and the police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
Li Ping Memorial School, where the six-year-old girl is a student, said they offered support to the girl’s family and had enacted their crisis management protocol. A spokesperson urged families to pay attention to their children and reminded students not to travel alone.
