Middle-class fears having children for financial reasons

Hong Kong women are famous for marrying late and delaying children. Now a survey has found that 50 percent of women of child-bearing age decided to put children off because of financial reasons.

In a survey of 591 Hong Kong people, half of the women of child-bearing age decided that income is a big deciding factor in whether or not to have children. 90 percent of all those surveyed said that the government has not done enough to encourage families to have children. With an estimated HK$8 million needed to raise one child, and the time and love needed to nurture them, we can definitely see where all these people are coming from!
