Metal thieves steal HK’s roadside barriers

San Chuk Street in Fo Tan

Seriously, what’s up with these metal thieves – aren’t there enough manhole covers, road signs and hydrant lids to steal? Apparently not!

Police officers were reported that 180-metre stretch of metal railings, roadside barriers used to protect pedestrians from traffic, had been stolen off San Chuk Street in Fo Tan.

A police investigator told the SCMP, “A total of 120 metal [railings], which are each about 1.5 metres wide, had been stripped leaving behind vertical bars inserted into the ground.”

The total cost of metal straps stolen is estimated at HK$145,000.
