A middle-aged man was sent to hospital in the early hours of this morning after being beaten up in a Hong Kong nightclub for allegedly refusing to pass the karaoke microphone.

Police were called to the scene after receiving a report that a 47-year-old man, surnamed Kwan, was assaulted at a club on Jordan Road in Yau Ma Tei, HK01 reports.

When they arrived at the scene, police found Kwan on his own, bloodied and beaten.

According to on.cc, Kwan was on stage drunkenly singing a few songs on the bar’s karaoke machine while at least three people queued by the side of the stage waiting for their turn.

But instead of relinquishing the mic, Kwan kept on singing, drawing complaints from audience members over the karaoke faux pas.

A verbal dispute erupted between Kwan, audience members, and people in the queue, quickly escalating into a brawl that ended with Kwan sustaining cuts to his head and the left corner of his eye.

Reports indicate that there were two or three attackers, and police are treating the matter as a case of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
