McVeggie available at McDonald’s until July

Every year, during the three-day Cheung Chau Bun Festival, where locals fast or go on a vegetarian diet, the McDonald’s on Cheung Chau island offers the McVeggie burger on its menu.

This year however, McDonald’s announced that the McVeggie burger will not just be available at the Cheung Chau outlet but all McDonald’s restaurants in Hong Kong.

The promotional burger will be available from now until July and costs HK$30.8 for the meal or HK$15.8 for just the burger reports Apple Daily.

The burger claims to be vegetarian friendly, made of green peas, corn, carrots, mushrooms and mashed potatoes however, at a food tasting session, customers expressed that the burger was not strictly “vegetarian” as it contains onions, spring onions and garlic, which are ingredients that some Buddhist followers and vegetarians can’t eat.
