McDonald’s raises its prices by 2.2 percent

From today onwards, items at McDonald’s will on average be 2.2 percent more expensive.

Legislators have criticised McDonald’s for introducing the price hike during the Chinese New Year period saying that it may worry Hongkongers, and other fast-food outlets may follow and increase their prices too.

Inflation in Hong Kong is a serious problem and McDonald’s explained their reasons for increasing prices at a press conference yesterday. McDonald’s claimed that the costs of food between 2011 to 2012 have gone up by 4.1 percent. Bread, biscuits and cakes costs are up by 3.8 percent, dairy products up by 3.6 percent and meats 3.5 percent.

A supersized meal will set you back around HK$40 now! Ouch!
