A manhunt is underway in Hong Kong following a small explosion in a rubbish bin at around 8:30pm last night outside the Legislative Council building.
“Two men came close to the bin, set fire to the substance and threw it in the bin. The bin caught fire and exploded,” police said, according to HKFP. Part of the incident was caught by security cameras.
It is thought that the act may have been prompted by the cancellation of a planned rally to protest the copyright bill labeled as “Internet Article 23”. A scheduled debate of the bill had to be adjourned yesterday when too many of Hong Kong’s lazy lawmakers failed to show.
A witness said he saw four to five people with masks leave the site prior to the explosion. A police investigation is underway, with two men of 1.7 metres tall and slim build being sought for arson.
LegCo Chairman Jasper Tsang expressed grave concern about the incident and condemned the dangerous act. The Chairman urged law enforcement agencies to take prompt and decisive actions to arrest the culprits and bring them to justice.
No-one was injured as result of the explosion.
