A Hong Kong man who raped his daughter repeatedly for five years – beginning when she was 12 years old – and forced her to terminate her pregnancy was jailed for 12 years yesterday.
The 54-year-old man, who was not identified, pleaded guilty to two charges of rape and one count of administering a drug to procure abortion in High Court.
He began sexually abusing his daughter in 1998, Apple Daily reports. When the child resisted, he reportedly beat her younger brother – who is eight years younger than her – to force her into submission.
The defendant once raped his daughter in front of his son, the court heard.
At the age of 15, the victim was impregnated through rape, and was forced by her father to take traditional Chinese medicine to induce a miscarriage.
The daughter reported the case to police last year, after the defendant reportedly demanded to have sex with her again.
In her psychological report, the victim was described as being traumatised, antisocial, with a low sense of self esteem and self worth. The 30-year-old said she was disappointed that her mother had never intervened or tried to protect her, the court heard.
During sentencing, Judge Joseph Yau called the defendant “remorseless” and “beastly”. “A child should be protected by their parents’ love, but the defendant has violated her, and the mother has failed to protect her and indirectly condoned her husband’s brutality,” Yau said.
