It was a valid question for the circumstances.

“What do you think you’re playing at?”asked a motorist near Prince Edward MTR on the weekend after a pedestrian conspicuously charged at his car and hurled himself on the windshield.

The answer, it appears, could be something dubious, with the less-than-convincing collision “victim” seemingly the latest case of someone trying, and failing, to cash-in by causing a fake accident.

Fortunately for the driver, and the video-watching public, the whole thing was caught on dash cam footage, which went viral after being uploaded online.

The incident took place at the junction between Boundary Street and Cheung Sha Wan Road, close to Prince Edward MTR station about at 7pm on Saturday.

The clip shows the moment the pedestrian, wearing dark-colored clothing and a backpack, pounces, running toward the moving vehicle and bouncing off the bonnet.

Seconds later the man gets up, apparently unscathed, and heads back to the sidewalk.

The driver then gets out of the vehicle and yells at the man: “What do you think you’re playing at?”

The man then replies: “I’m crossing the road? Am I not allowed to cross the road?”

The driver retorts back: “Crossing the road? I saw you!”

At one point in the video, one of the men can be heard threatening to call police.

According to on.cc, police received a report from a 55-year-old man surnamed Tse at 8pm that evening, who said that a local man aged 20 to 30-years-old suddenly rushed out in front of his vehicle, and the two men had an argument over the collision.

Apple Daily reported that when police arrived, the mystery pedestrian had already fled the scene.

Many netizens likened the video to the “fake car accidents” that sometimes happen in the mainland where “victims” extort money from innocent motorists by throwing themselves in front of vehicles and demanding compensation.

A woman tried to pull of a similar stunt in Kowloon Tong in April, when she was caught on dash cam running towards a stationary car while dragging a suitcase, and throwing herself onto the car’s bonnet.

Ah, people.
