A 49-year-old man was arrested at Wellington airport in New Zealand, after customs officers discovered one and a half kilograms of crystal meth, also known as ice, concealed in two neck pillows he was carrying, SCMP reports.
We’re sure he just had a really bad tweak — sorry — crick in his neck.
The man had reportedly flown to New Zealand from Hong Kong, via Sydney.
A source from Hong Kong customs told the SCMP that meth is usually smuggled from mainland China to overseas destinations via Hong Kong, and that a kilogram of meth could be bought on the mainland for less than HKD100,000.
To put that in perspective, the same amount has an estimated street value of HKD400,000 in Hong Kong, but “could fetch more than HKD4 million per kilogram in New Zealand and Australia.”
The suspect, who was not named, appeared in Wellington District Court after his arrest, and charged with importing class A drugs and possession of narcotics. He will be remanded in custody without plea until February.
