It was a shit excuse.
A 60-year-old driver caused a stir in Kwun Tong yesterday evening after leaving a baby and toddler unattended in a car parked in the middle of the road.
His reason? He had to drop some other kids off at the pool, or so he initially said.
According to Apple Daily, police received a report about 6pm about two unattended minors in a black Mercedes Benz that was sitting in the middle lane of Hoi Yuen Road outside the entrance of Kwun Tong Plaza.
An eyewitness at the scene, surnamed Chow, told the newspaper he saw the driver of the Benz run out of the car and into the the mall. He added that, at the time, there was no heavy traffic. Things had been a bit backed up though.
Chow told the newspaper that he overheard the driver — who reappeared after 20 minutes and found a police van and several cops around his car — telling officers that he really needed to poop, so he left his car to go to the toilet.
However faced with skepticism, the driver, surnamed Lau, reportedly then changed his story to say that his car ran out of gas so he needed to stop by a gas station to get some.
In the end, officers took down his details and let a relieved Lau go home, classifying the incident as a car break down.
