A staff member at a luxury watch store in Tsim Sha Tsui is fighting for his life after getting shot during a robbery last night.
The man, 57, was working at a Collectors Watch & Jewelry Company Limited store on Peking Road when he tried to stop the robber, reports the SCMP.
The robber, described by one SCMP source as “calm and savage”, ran away with HKD5.5 million worth of goods.
The 1.6-metre-tall thief was reportedly “well-dressed”, wearing a silver-grey suit, white sports shoes and a surgical mask. The staff also believe that he was wearing a wig.
The man walked into the store and requested nine different Patek Philippe watches by pointing at their pictures in a catalogue he had brought himself, reports Apple Daily.
One employee who was suspicious of the oddly behaving man actually secretly took a photo of the man while he was selecting the watches.
The thief then showed the staff a credit card he said belonged to his boss.
According to an Apple Daily report, he then pulled out a gun and fired a single shot without any warning, hitting an employee in the chest. He grabbed the nine watches and ran out of the store.
The SCMP says that the employee was shot when he bravely tried to stop the robber from leaving.
The robber was last seen fleeing on Haiphong Road.
Heavily armed police officers arrived to search for the man, who remains at large.
The shot employee is currently fighting for his life in hospital.
The last time shots were fired during a robbery was in To Kwa Wan in 2004, according to the SCMP.
