A 29-year-old man is in serious condition after picking and eating wild mushrooms from the Ma On Shan countryside.
The patient started vomiting and having diarrhoea 12 hours after eating the mushrooms on March 16. Three days later, he developed jaundice.
He went to the emergency room on Saturday, five days after he first ate the mushrooms, and was admitted into Prince of Wales Hospital.
The hospital staff diagnosed him with acute liver and renal failure, and he was transferred to the ICU at Queen Mary Hospital later that day.
Please don’t pick or eat wild mushrooms!
A Centre for Health Protection spokesman explained that it’s difficult to distinguish between edible and non-edible mushrooms.
