Police are on the hunt for a man who tried to rob a woman of her purse, forced her to take off her underwear, and then asked her to be his girlfriend.

The victim — a 38 year-old saleswoman surnamed Tsang — was walking through the Yau Mei Court car park in Yau Tong at about 2am on Tuesday when a man in his 30s came up from behind, covered her mouth with one hand, and wrapped his other arm around her neck.

According to Apple Daily, the robber demanded Tsang give over all her money and asked her where she lived. She replied that she forgot to bring her purse and lived with her family.

The robber then told her to take off her panties instead, saying: “If you don’t take it off, then I will help you take them off.”

He then told Tsang to hand over her bra and told her: “I haven’t dated for three years and I don’t have a girlfriend, will you be my girlfriend?”

Fortunately, the robbery was spotted by a plainclothes police officer who chased away the robber, who was still carrying Tsang’s underwear.

The newspaper reported that Tsang, who had to be taken to the hospital and needed three stitches for the back of her head, said the suspect did not look drunk or poor but may have had some mental problems.

According to Ming Pao, police are treating the case as a robbery. They are looking for a Chinese man aged between 30 to 35, who is about 1.6 to 1.7 meters tall with black curly hair. He was wearing a light-colored jacket at the time of the robbery.
