The defendant.
To be fair, even a police officer admitted with a smile that, “The two really do look alike!”
The assault happened several months ago on May 11. The 82-year-old victim was at a traditional medicine shop inside Lei Yue Mun Plaza when the defendant attacked him a hammer before running off.
The police failed to catch him immediately, despite CCTV footage showing the suspect buying the hammer at a nearby hardware store.
Two days later, on May 13, a man had to be rescued after he jumped into the ocean off of a Sai Ying Pun waterfront in an apparent suicide attempt.

The police then realised that the man was the very suspect they were pursuing from the Lei Yue Mun assault case.
The defendant claimed yesterday in court that he was at the mall buying beer when he spotted the victim, immediately (and incorrectly) recgonising him as the dentist who treated him nine years ago in Kwun Tong.
The dentist allegedly left him with a debilitating toothache, apparently leading Yiu to suffer from insomnia. Eventually he lost his job, his wife and kids – and he blamed the dentist.

So he bought a hammer and attacked the old man, who had to get 13 stitches in hospital.
In yet another twist, the actual dentist in question says he has no idea who the defendant is. (Would it help to jog his memory if the defendent opened his mouth wide and said “Aaah”?) The records are of no help either, since those from nine years ago have already been thrown out.
The case has been adjourned until Oct. 2.
