Man ‘hacked with rusty machete over bicycle wheel theft’

The attempted theft of a bicycle wheel took a violent turn on Monday morning, when the suspect reportedly began hacking the wheel’s owner with a rusty machete.

According to Ta Kung Pao (as translated by EJ Insight), the incident took place at 9am on Monday in Ma Tin Pok village, Yuen Long.

A 43-year-old Nepali man named Rana apparently tried to stop a man from running away with his wheel, but investigators said the suspect produced a machete and began hacking at Rana.

Police are still looking for the suspect, who is described as a Nepali man, approximately five feet and three inches in height, seen wearing a yellow t-shirt and blue jeans.

Rana was brought to Pok Oi Hospital with hack wounds to his hands and head, and police later recovered a rusty machete and the stolen wheel, which were abandoned by the suspect. Police are reportedly treating the incident as a case of assault.
