A man who brutally killed his girlfriend with an electric drill has been found guilty of murder.

Safdar Husnain, 28, now faces a potential life sentence for the March 2016 murder of Andrea Bayr, 25, reported Apple Daily.

During the trial, which concluded yesterday, the court heard horrific details about Husnain’s attack on Bayr at a construction site in Tuen Mun where he worked as a security guard.

Bayr, the daughter of a Filipina mother and Austrian father, was stabbed and battered with the drill, suffered a brain haemorrhage, and had deep bruises in her neck muscles.

Husnain, who was battering the victim with the tool when first confronted by officers, denied the charge of murder.

He claimed he attacked his girlfriend during a meth-fuelled hallucinationin which she appeared as a ‘witch’, and that he also heard a voice tell him he would be killed by someone he loved.

He said he “loved” Bayr , intended to marry her and did not intend to kill her, Ming Pao reported.

That defense was rejected by six out of seven members of the jury, who found him guilty of murder, the outlet reported.

After being told the verdict, Husnain said “thanks” through an Urdu translator.
