Cooking for your mum: good.

Trying to poison her with rat poison-laced soup: not on, according to police, who have laid an “attempted murder” holding charge against a 30-year-old Hongkonger surnamed Ng who is suspected of spiking a bowl of hot soup with rodent killer.

In a statement online, the force said the suspect was arrested on May 26.

Ng on May 16, according to police, put suspected poison into soup and served it for his 60-year-old mother at an apartment in the Tin Yat Estate in Tin Shui Wai.

According to on.cc, the mom became suspicious after noticing the hot soup served up by her son smelled a little funny.

She was “greatly surprised”, the outlet noted, to find unknown objects at the bottom of her bowl.

Though despite this great surprise, no action was initially taken.

It wasn’t until two days later, she went to Castle Peak hospital that she was informed she’d been poisoned.

According to on.cc, a police report was made on May 25 by the mother, doctors, and social workers.

Ng was arrested the following day after an initial investigation, and the case is due at Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Court today.
