A 63-year-old man has died after he was hit by a school bus while dashing across the road in Tsuen Wan yesterday.

The man, surnamed Chan, was attempting to cross Yeung Uk Road at about 3:40pm when he was slammed into by a school bus that was transporting 13 school children home at the time.

Dashcam footage from the bus — which some readers may find upsetting — shows the traffic light turn from green to yellow just as the 63 year old attempts to dash across the street. The bus appears to be going at full speed at the time of impact.

The last image scene in the video is the bus’ windshield cracking as the bus slams into the pedestrian, and HK01 reports he was thrown about eight meters across the road.

Chan sustained injuries to his head and abdomen, and was immediately rushed to Yan Chai Hospital, where he was later declared dead.

Police have arrested the 65-year-old school bus driver, surnamed Lai, on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death, though it’s unclear at this point if he will ultimately face any charges.
