Man crashes car after trying to dodge monkey

A 31 year-old man was taken to hospital this morning after crashing his car because he was trying to dodge a monkey.

The driver, surnamed Lee, was heading out of Cheung Sha Wan in Kowloon via Tai Po Road and driving near Kam Shan Country Park at about 7am.

Apple Daily reported that Lee was trying to avoid hitting a monkey, when he swerved into a patch of grass on the side of the road and damaged the front of his Toyota.

Police were sent to the scene, where a relatively mild buildup of traffic understandably occurred.

The newspaper reported that Lee was taken to hospital complaining of neck pains.

If you’re thinking this story sounds a bit familiar, there’s a reason. Back in July, a car driving on Tai Po Road collided with a taxi after a monkey suddenly rushed out onto the road. Six people including the drivers were injured.

Kam Shan Country Park is also known as Monkey Hill as it has the largest population of macaques in the city.

According to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, there are about 2,000 wild monkeys in Hong Kong.
