A Hong Kong man reportedly chopped his wife on the head with an ax this morning and then clambered onto a window ledge at his family’s flat in Tin Shui Wai.

According to Apple Daily, the incident was reported to the police by the couple’s 14-year-old daughter at about 8am today. Police officers and firefighters rushed to the family’s flat at Ching Hoi House on Tin Ching Estate and found the man sitting on a window ledge.

Firefighters have set up an inflatable rescue cushion on the ground below the man while police negotiators attempt to talk him down. Members of the police force’s Special Duties Unit, equipped with abseiling gear, are stationed one floor above the man to help bring him to safety.

The man’s wife was brought to the hospital, in a conscious state, to be treated for her injuries.
