Man arrested for stealing Burberry alligator coat worth nearly HK$1 million

Two men believed to have been involved with walking out of the Burberry store in Tsim Sha Tsui with an alligator skin coat worth HK$995,000 have been arrested.

It was reported that the thief pretended to be a customer, took the coat, and walked out of the store. The whole incident took no more than a minute and was captured entirely on CCTV. Store staff did not realise the coat was missing until closing time.

The two men arrested were 37-year-old South Asian origin man and 31-year-old South Asian origin man. During the capture of the second man, he stashed a bag in a roadside flower bed, which was where police officers found the coat. Police officers then escorted the second man to a nearby store in Chunking Mansions where they found a tablet computer also believed to have been stolen by him.

The two men have been arrested and detained for theft and handling stolen goods.
