A 22-year-old Hong Kong man was arrested over the weekend after he killed his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend on a double decker bus and jumped out of a broken window.

The couple were on a 118 Citybus outside Fu Shing Court in Chai Wan at around 4pm on Saturday when the man stabbed his ex-girlfriend with an 11-inch knife. Following the attack, the man reportedly broke a window on the upper deck with an emergency hammer and jumped out of the bus.

Police were called to the scene at 4:09pm, at which point they found the woman unconscious on the upper level of the bus with multiple stab wounds to her arms, neck, chest, and back. The man, who also sustained injuries, was found unconscious on the pavement outside. Both were rushed to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, where the 20-year-old was certified dead at 4:49pm.

Following preliminary investigation, police arrested the man in connection with the case, which has been classified as murder. Authorities said the motive behind the attack had yet to be confirmed, but police would investigate the case from multiple angles.

Lam said in a press conference that bus passengers who witnessed the incident said they did not hear a dispute between the couple before the murder, but the victim did make “some small noises” as she was being stabbed.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to offer is urged to call the investigating officers on 3660 1662 or 3660 1683.
