Man arrested in Sheung Shui after the mother of his child found buried in cement

A dim sum chef, 34 was arrested yesterday after the body of his live-in girlfriend and mother of his 2-year-old child was found in a 30-centimetre-deep concrete grave in a village in Sheung Shui.

Chin Sze-yuet, 34, a waitress at a Tai Po private kitchen and a mother of three, was reported missing on Saturday by her good friend and neighbor, reports the Standard.

According to Apple Daily, the case was uncovered when Kwok Wai-shing, also 34, bumped into Chin’s friend on Thursday while he was walking with the 2-year-old son he had with Chin.

The friend asked Kwok where Chin was, and Kwok reportedly took off, leaving his son behind.

The friend then took the abandoned child to the police.

The police arrested Kwok on Saturday and he later confessed that he “accidentally killed” Chin during an argument about money in their flat over three weeks ago, on May 13. It is believed she was choked to death.

He then transported her body to the burial site in a suitcase. The police say that he dug the hole, put her body in it, then covered it up with wet concrete.

It took firefighters three hours to excavate the body.

Chin had two teenage daughters with her ex-husband, from whom she split after he reportedly accused her of infidelity and tried to strangle her. He left with the two girls.

Kwok and Chin met while working at a restaurant, and often fought over money, according to Apple Daily. Kwok had a history of abusing Chin, reports the newspaper.

Chin had allegedly begun to suspect Kwok of cheating on her with their son’s babysitter. She was reportedly hired to help with the child since Chin was forced to take on several part-time jobs, as Kwok was unable to work after an industrial accident.

The police say that Kwok has no history of mental illness.

The child has has now been handed over to the Social Welfare Department.
