A 38-year-old man was arrested on Monday for selling unregistered drugs containing the steroid oxandrolone, a Part I poison.
He was found to be selling both injectable and oral pharmaceutical products to bodybuilders who were really desperate to achieve that popping-neck-vein look.
Under Hong Kong law, Oxandrolone must be prescribed by a doctor and supplied by a registered pharmacist.
If misused, side effects can include oedema (swelling), hypercalcaemia (too much calcium in your blood), gastrointestinal bleeding (blood in your poop), irritability (cranky pants), headache (when your head hurts), and depression (self-explanatory).
If you’ve purchased steroids from a stranger on the internet… please stop using them immediately. You really shouldn’t be giving yourself injections in the ass anyway.
The illegal sale and possession of unregistered pharmaceutical products and Part I poisons are crimes. The maximum penalty for each offence is a fine of HKD100,000 and two years’ imprisonment.
At least you’d have a lot of time to work out in prison.
