Man arrested after 15-hour manhunt for murdering, almost beheading stepmother

A 21-year-old construction worker of Nepalese origin, Lawati Sandesh Limbu, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 42-year-old stepmother in their Tsuen Wan flat on Chuen Lung Street yesterday morning.

The police believe that Limbu first attacked his stepmother then her 42-year-old unrelated female rooomate in their flat with two large choppers and a fruit knife.The attack was so violent that the stepmother’s head was almost completely separated from her body, reports Apple Daily. The other woman sustained head wounds and was sent to Princess Margaret Hospital, where she is in stable condition

The police received a report at 7am yesterday about fighting, and arrived at the scene finding the stepmother’s body. Reportedly, the suspect attacked the roommate after she was awoken by the commotion of the fight. The roommate managed to escape and run out of the apartment with the deceased victim’s 7-year-old son, who was present at the time of the attack.

The suspect fled the scene. The photo above, supplied by the Police, is a still from security camera footage showing the suspect leaving the apartment building after the attack. 

Limbu was not arrested until around 11pm that night after a dramatic manhunt. At 9pm the police were tipped off that the suspect had highjacked a taxi and had gone to Ting Kau Village in Tsuen Wan, where he ran off into the hills. Sixty police officers equipped with night vision goggles and search dogs were immediately dispatched to find him, with a helicopter providing aerial support. The suspect was found and arrested at around 11pm.

Limbu immigrated to Hong Kong with his parents when he was 3 years old. A policeman said that a few years ago, Limbu suddenly started acting so strangely that his family believed him to be possessed by evil spirits, and sent him back to Nepal to be treated. He later returned to Hong Kong.
