Man accused of robbery climbs out of dock in courtroom after whispering ‘behead’

There were dramatic scenes in Eastern Magistrates’ Court yesterday after a man charged with two counts of robbery climbed out of the prisoner’s box and started yelling about chopping off heads and making references to the horror film Saw.

According to Apple Daily, 25-year-old part-time actor Limbu Jun-kang is on trial for robbing two men in Central of HK$1,720 (just under US$220) in total in November.

He allegedly followed one of the two men before choking him and attacking him with a glass bottle.

The defendant was earlier declared fit to stand trial after prosecutors received two psychiatric reports at the end of last year.

According to the newspaper, the principal magistrate overseeing the case is Bina Chainrai, and her comments were being translated into Chinese for the defendant.

During the trial Limbu began rubbing his hands together and whispered the words “behead, I heard behead”.

He then began banging his heads on the bars of the prisoner’s box and started climbing out of it.

According to The Standard, at one point he yelled: “I heard Saw in English, it’s enough to go to jail. It doesn’t need to put into the Saw, daddy!”

Limbu then tried to make his way to the lawyers but was stopped by police officers and a court secretary.

Ming Pao reported that the principal magistrate had to adjourn the court proceedings briefly so that Limbu could calm down, and when the proceedings resumed, he was guarded by four officers, and a fifth one standing outside the court room.

The case was adjourned to February 20 and will be transferred to the High Court.

The defendant was remanded in custody to the Siu Lam Psychiatric Center.
