An elderly man was hospitalized in the early hours of today after his nursing home roommate chopped him in the head with a knife.

The incident took place at around 2am today, in an old people’s home in Yau Ma Tei, Ming Pao reports. The victim, an 82-year-old man surnamed Kwok, said he was sleeping when his roommate, an 80-year-old man, chopped him on the head with a kitchen knife.

The suspect had reportedly been drinking before the incident, Oriental Daily reports.

After Kwok cried out for help, a member of staff surnamed Leung rushed into the room, but the assailant had already fled the scene. The suspect, an unidentified 80-year-old man is still at large. He is around 165 centimeters tall, thin, and was last seen wearing a grey top and a pair of trainers.

Kwok, who was rushed to Kwong Wah Hospital for treatment, has reportedly been discharged. It is reported that he and his attacker had argued on previous occasions.
