Man, 37, arrested for threatening Airport Express worker with knife

A 37-year-old American man was arrested on Saturday morning after he reportedly threatened Airport Express staff with a six-inch knife.

At 10:30am on Saturday, the man boarded an AsiaWorld-Expo-bound train at the airport with a luggage trolley, Apple Daily reports

A station worker boarded the train and told the passenger he wasn’t allowed to bring trolleys onboard but got into a disagreement with him, leading to the passenger allegedly pulling out a six-inch knife which was strapped to his waist.

A police officer boarded the train at AsiaWorld-Expo but reportedly couldn’t calm the passenger down before the train headed back towards the airport. Once the train returned to the airport, a group of armed police officers came onboard to apprehend the man.

A witness told Apple Daily that the passenger apparently began shouting and broke down in tears before he was subdued.

Police sources told HK01 that the 37-year-old, surnamed Aka, was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, which bears a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment.
