A mainland man beat his wife and threatened to commit suicide in Hong Kong yesterday after learning that she was pregnant with a girl, not a boy.
According to Ming Pao Daily, the 47-year-old, surnamed Chan, shut his wife and daughters out of their 40th-floor flat in Wong Tai Sin before climbing out of the window and shouting to worried onlookers that he would jump.
He had apparently learned that his wife was pregnant with a girl and, having four daughters already, was just not onboard at all.
After a four-hour standoff, Chan, who had allegedly been drinking, was arrested charged with common assault.
According to reports, he was convicted of child abuse in 2007 for beating his 14-year-old daughter.
