Photos of two tourists using an airport boarding gate as their makeshift badminton court have been making rounds on social media in the last few days.
The pair, who are believed to be from mainland China, were seen passing their time with a leisurely game of badminton while presumably waiting to board their flight to Xi’an on Thursday.
While many netizens have reacted to the photos with amusement, others have been rather less impressed, complaining that airport security were failing in their duty by turning a blind eye to the friendly game.
100 most reports that some dramatic Hongkongers even lamented that “Hong Kong is dead”, and asked “Why stop at badminton? Next time, why not football, or volleyball?”. One commenter cheekily added, “Why not mahjong?”
This fun-loving pair don’t appear to be causing any disruption to their fellow travellers, however, and other acts of true resourcefulness at HKIA – the guy who used his rice cooker to make his supper, and this dude who set up his hammock after a late flight (pictured below) – have all been commended by netizens.
Perhaps the more wound-up commenters should take a beat, or, dare we say it – relax with a nice game of badminton?
