Mainland tourists end strike over botched trip

170 tourists from a 440 person tour group scheduled to fly to Taiwan from Hong Kong were told yesterday their trip was cancelled as some of their travel documents were not in order.

About 20 out of the 170 tourists that were unable to leave for Taiwan were so unhappy about the situation they refused to go home and leave Hong Kong’s Lok Ma Chau border unless they were compensated by their travel agent.

The travel agency then agreed to compensate visitors RMB5,000 and an air ticket back home. 12 of the visitors took the compensation but another right refused demanding RMB50,000 instead.

The remaining tourists have ended their strike, but it’s not certain what compensation agreement has been made with the travel agency.
