Mainland student convicted of theft for taking cash left behind at Hong Kong ATM

A university student from mainland China has been convicted of theft after being found guilty of taking cash left behind at an ATM.

Hong You, 22, walked away with HKD4,900 of someone else’s money at a cash machine on the campus of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on Feb. 5.

The third year undergraduate, who had no previous criminal record, confessed after she was arrested.

She was charged with theft and ordered to return the money and pay a fine of HKD1,000 at court yesterday, reports Ming Pao Daily.
