Lo Wu border
Housewife and MBA student, Li Xia, studying at Shenzhen University was jailed for six months for possession of arms without a license and discharging arms in a manner likely to injure others.
Li Xia got into a verbal argument with a man at the Lo Wu border departure hall, when Li used a pepper spray on the man. Luckily the man did not suffer from any serious injury.
Li’s lawyers tried to argue that she was unaware of the pepper spray being prohibited in Hong Kong, and had it with her for self-defense in the mainland. They also pleaded with the court for a suspended sentence rather than jail term so that Li can finish her MBA studies, however, the court denied this and Li is to serve her sentence immediately.
