A man from mainland China made himself at home in Hong Kong Airport over the weekend, plugging in his rice cooker to make his dinner after missing a flight.
The man was spotted by a fellow flyer on Sunday morning, squatting opposite a bakery in the departure lounge with his rice cooker plugged in and steaming.
When Apple Daily tracked him down yesterday, the man explained that he had been dismissed from a construction job in Singapore, leaving him with very little money after paying the employment agency and sending the bulk of the rest home.
To make matters worse, he fell asleep at Hong Kong Airport and missed his connecting flight back to China, forcing him to fork out for another ticket.
With no flights available until Tuesday, he decided to save some cash by cooking for himself.
Wow. We feel pretty bad for him.
A spokesman for the Airport Authority reminded passengers that the sockets are for cleaning staff and not the public. Anyone found using them improperly could be fined up to HKD10,000.
We’ve got a feeling this poor guy might have trouble cobbling that together, though.
